06/02/2005 - Amanda Ursell in The Sunday Times - Food of Love
The author of Men are From Mars, Woman are from Venus now says that what we eat affects our sex drive. Amanda Ursell hears how to boost your libido – and lose weight.
“…Gray’s meal-replacement powders, which are packed with male and female brain boosters. …taste surprisingly delicious with undertones of vanilla, malt, chocolate, and molasses”
“The idea is to have a shake for breakfast every day as morning is the time when the brain is most able to make dopamine and serotonin. The shakes provide the right nutrients to maximise the gender-specific brain chemicals, including whey protein (which comes from cow’s milk) which is rich in amino acids and ground flaxseed which supplies plenty of omega-3 essential fats. The shakes also contain HUNGER-SUPPRESSING, fat burning ingredients (such as calcium orotate) and with just 184 calories and 6g of fat per serving, they still manage to keep you going until lunch. They cost £39.95 per tub for a 30 day supply, which works out at £1.33 a day – less than the price of an average cappuccino.”
“…Gray may not be a nutritionist or a dietician, but I am, and having been ready to criticise his latest Mars and Venus venture, I have to concede that it seems to be scientifically sound and makes perfect sense.”
06/02/2005 - Mail on Sunday Online
“Dr Gray said the drink was designed to encourage the body to digest proteins and help it convert amino acids into hormones, which in turn can result in fat being burned more efficiently”
“In a trial in Canada, 57 people who replaced one of their daily meals with the shake for a month lost an average of 15.4 lb.”

A SENSATIONAL new drink that helps you lose weight AND sends your sex life into orbit is set to wow slimmers
04/02/2005 - Himtimes
The drink, which costs 39.95 pounds for a month's supply, is said to work by creating the right levels of certain hormones in the brain. The men's version contains nutrients said to boost levels of dopamine, a brain chemical associated with excitement, motivation and passion while the women's version claims to boost levels of serotonin, which produces feelings of happiness and wellbeing.
Both versions claim to help in weight loss if used to replace one meal a day, however swopping drinks won't do anyone any favours.
03/02/2005 - The Daily Mail - Olinka Koster
“It is the breakfast drink that seems to promise good cheer all round. As well as helping women lose weight, the Mars Venus Supershake claims it can put the spark back into their sex lives. And another version for men promises to help them slim while peppering their passion levels.”

03/02/2005 - The Scotsman Lindsay Moss - Mars-Venus Author Launches Diet Plan
“The American author launched the Mars Venus Supershake at the Natural History Museum in London today. The male and female versions of the shake are designed to be drank at breakfast or as a replacement for another meal.”
“Dr Gray said the different ingredients in both shakes optimised brain chemistry to help men and women control their appetites and lose weight. This involved encouraging the body to produce serotonin and dopamine so that appetite was controlled and fat was burned more efficiently”
“Dr Gray said it was necessary for serotonin and dopamine to be in balance to give people more energy and feel content so they do not seek out fattening comfort foods.”
“Dr Gray also outlined the results of a trial of the shakes which took place in Canada. He said that all 57 people taking part in the 30day trial lost weight – with an average weight loss of 15.4 lbs.”
03/02/2005 - The Guardian
“Dr Gray, who launched the Mars Venus Supershake at the Natural History Museum in London yesterday, believes most overweight people can blame imbalances in brain chemicals.”
“The shakes” he said, “rebalanced feel-good neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, and so helped to suppress appetite.”
“Women use up their stores of serotonin more quickly than men and can become depressed or overwhelmed by their moods and so eat more for comfort” he said “and typically, when men get home, they have run out of dopamine and just want to sit on the couch, so they eat more to increase their energy. The ingredients,” he said, “were tailored to reset the brain chemicals to healthy levels”.
“Dr Gray, who teamed up with Brian Newman, a surgeon and director of the Bolton company Medical Innovations, to make the shakes, said an independent trial showed that people lost on average more that 15lb (6.8kg) in 30 days when drinking them”
03/02/2005 - Netdoctor.co.uk - "You’ve read the book, now try the shake".
03/02/2005 - Healthyinfo - Dr John Gray, launched the MarsVenus Supershake
Dr John Gray, launched the MarsVenus Supershake in London yesterday and believes that imbalances in ‘feel good’ chemicals in the brain could be responsible for most people being overweight. The shakes balance neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine and so help to suppress appetite by including ‘feel good’ sensations.
30/01/2005 - The Sunday Times - Maurice Chittenden
“The male shake will restore dopamine, making the man feel more satisfied at home. The female shake will add serotonin to boost confidence and energy”
“It is even suggested that if the shakes are consumed regularly they will optimise brain chemistry so that people no longer need to diet or exercise”
